Wow, what a great book about this amazing man! I’ve always loved Abraham Lincoln, but realized that I’d never really taken the time to learn about his life. It wasn’t all Civil War, Abolitionism, and an Assassination after all. That’s why I wanted to read this book and I wasn’t disappointed. I learned about his early life; about how his lost his mother at a very young age and gained and endearing step-mother and that he actually wasn’t close to his father. How interesting it is to learn that you don’t need to be from a perfect background to make a huge difference in this world, right? Then, there were those stories about him being saved from drowning as a child and how he later saved his dog from drowning, despite it being from and ice-cold river. Great insights to a man, the man! His courtship and relationship with Mary Todd was also covered along with his family and political life. It was full of great information packaged in a book that didn’t take forever to read. I feel I know more about Lincoln now than what I’d learned from textbooks and movies and I enjoyed myself while doing so.
