PDF Montessori: A Modern Approach with FREE MOBI EDITION!

If you’re looking for a concise introduction to the Montessori method or an understanding of what a Montessori parenting lifestyle actually looks like, this is not the book for you.Firstly, it is NOT concise, don’t be fooled by the publisher’s blurb. It reads more like a scholarly paper than a helpful guide, and some of the language used is frankly offensive in a modern context. Original quotes by education theorists from the early 1900s I can forgive. But the author herself uses the terms “retarded” (?!) and “from the ghetto” to describe children with higher support needs and those from from less affluent communities. Not cool, and certainly not appropriate for an educator.There is a lot of old theory here - A LOT - and dozens of quotes from Montessori’s works and those of other educational theorists. But the same points are made again and again with only slight changes in each chapter to address different subjects. In my opinion, the entire work could’ve been pared down by three quarters without any loss of relevant information.Lastly, there were no examples of practical application of the Montessori method in the home. Great emphasis was placed on the parents’ role in raising a Montessori child (an entire chapter devoted to it!), but the requirements of this role were only vaguely defined. To summarize: Let the kids do what they want but provide them with an environment and a life structure that will make this freedom beneficial to their emotional, intellectual, and physical growth. How? Who knows. Just do it!Overall, not what I was expecting from a book that claims to address the questions: “What is Montessori method? Are its revolutionary ideas about early childhood education relevant to today's world? And most important, especially for today's dual-career couples, is a Montessori education right for my child?”
