Follow the story of Army Staff Sergeant David “Rosie” Rosenkrantz, an 82nd Airborne Paratrooper who--after fighting heroically in Sicily, Italy, and Holland--went missing during a German counterattack at the end of Operation Market Garden. I have done a great deal of reading and research on World War II. Phil Rosenkrantz’s Letter’s from Uncle Dave is unlike any I have read. As he reviews the story of his uncle Dave, killed and MIA in World War II. He uses Dave’s letters home allowing us to know Dave. Unlike many stories of soldiers in the war, these are in real-time. They are not memories, they are the current events of Dave’s last years. That itself is amazing, poignant, and powerful. It only gets better as Rosenkrantz goes into his own search to find Uncle Dave and bring his remains home for a final resting. In the book he moves from family, to dedicated service, to the family’s search and grief, and ends with lessons of leadership and understanding. An important resource to keep the lessons and memories of World War II relevant.
